I have been involved with horses for over 40 years raising Quarter Horses, Appaloosas and Thoroughbreds. In 1992 because of a back injury, and an old knee injury, I could no longer ride a trotting horse. I couldn't accept the idea of not riding and not having horses in my life, so I started looking at the gaited breeds. The Paso Fino was my answer. I loved their beauty, but most of all, I loved their intelligence and willingness to please.
"They really are "a people horse"
In 1995 I bought my first Paso, a gelding to trail ride. But my husband and I thought there must be other people who could benefit from this incredible smooth ride, people who because of disabilities, could not ride a trotting horse or, who at a later age in life, wanted to learn to ride.
Because there where few Pasos in Ontario in those days, we went shopping for some good quality brood mares and a stallion, with the goal of raising quiet, well mannered horses that the whole family could show, ride and enjoy. We wanted horses that have good dispositions, were intelligent and well gaited. We wanted also to improve the breed in Canada with horses with good conformation. Along came Alcon, a stallion fondly called the "conformation King." Alcon, and the carefully chosen broodmares have given us some outstanding babies.
Our foals are handled and loved, but not spoiled. Many have been imprinted at birth, and we use resistance free training techniques. Our horses are raised mainly outdoors, because I believe they are more content in their natural environment. Although handled every day, they are left to enjoy life until late in their 2 year old year when they are taught to carry the saddle and lunged. We wait until they are 3 years old before they start to carry a rider. After they are ridden and learn the basics, they are ridden on the road, or trailered to bush trails to acquaint them with the environment.
We invite you to come and encounter the
Paso Fino experience for yourself and see that the

.
For the 11th year we are very pleased to have LARRY WHITESELL from Cookeville, Tennessee back again. The clinic will be July 9, 10 and 11, 2010. As an option for those who wish to continue the clinic they can extend it to a 5 day on July 12 and 13. This clinic is open to any breed since the basic foundation is the same for any horse. Both spectators and riders are welcome.
Larry teaches you how to teach your horse to relax so you can teach a correct response with the least effort. He teaches you how to teach your horse to respond to subtle cues. His clinics provide instruction to all levels of riders on their own horses and instils an eagerness you will carry with you so you can further your relationship with your horse at home.

Ambleside Pasos offer Clinics annually
There are few professional trainers of Paso Finos in Ontario. Paso Fino people seem eager to learn about their horses, so we at Ambleside have offered clinics over the past few years. Because the Paso gait is natural, often the horse and rider can perfect the gait when the horse is mature, physically balanced, and supple. We have learned a lot from the clinicians who have come to our farm each year.
If you are interested in attending any of our clinics,
please e-mail us and we will be happy to send you more information and upcoming Clinic dates.
