In Memory Of Alcon
This page is a memorial to our wonderful stallion Alcon
who suddenly died July 8, 2001
Born in Colombia South America in 1981, Alcon was imported to the United States as a yearling. Alcon was a stallion of impeccable beauty from his tiny tipped ears to his powerful hocks.
He was on the Top 10 Sires list 5 times. At the age of 9, in 1990, he was the youngest stallion to be awarded Number 1 Stallion. In 1991 he was again number 1 stallion in the Nation.
The Top Ten Sires List award is achieved by the accomplishments of the sires offspring in the show ring. It a very prestigious and sought after award. Although Alcon himself was never shown due to a lameness at a young age, he proved himself in his ability to transmit his conformation, his gait, and his incredible gentle disposition to his offspring. Alcon's offspring have done extremely well in the show ring with numerous Grand and Reserve Champions at the Regional & National level in Bella Forma, Fino, Performance, and Pleasure. He was Get of Sire Champion at the Nationals in
1989 - 1990 - 1992 - 1993 - 1994
Alcon proved himself time & time again by reproducing his flexible Fino Gait & impeccable conformation that easily identified his offspring. Now his daughters, when bred to other great Stallions, have gone on to be great brood mare producers earning their own right as Produce of Dam Champions.
In 1995 we purchased Alcon from Bill Minter in North Carolina. We brought him to Canada to live out his retirement years and to breed a few carefully chosen mares. But more importantly to be loved, pampered, and truly respected for the great stallion he had proven himself to be.
Being a stallion his sweet disposition seemed to surprise so many people when they entered his stall or paddock. He would nicker and sidle up beside them waiting patiently for the scratch on his withers or a pat that he knew he would receive. Always the gentleman, whether it be in his stall, or in the breeding pen, loving Alcon was easy. Alcon made it easy.
I feel truly privileged to have had the opportunity to own this great magnificent stallion.
Our time together seemed so very short. Now the barn with so many horses seems to have an emptiness that can't be filled. His large empty stall a constant reminder of how much we deeply miss and love him.
In Memory of Those Horses We Have Loved and Lost
Don't cry for the horses life has set free
A million white horses forever to be.
Don't cry for the horses now in God's hand
As they dance and they prance in a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift, but never to keep
As they close their eyes forever to sleep.
Their spirit unbound on silver wings they fly
A million white horses against the sky.
Look up into heaven you'll see them above
The horses we lost, the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time
They were never yours - they were never mine.
Don't cry for the horses, they'll be back some day.
When our time is gone, they will show us the way.
Do you hear that soft nicker ? Close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses. Love the ones that are here.
